My opinion :
The Socialite Murder is an exceptionally suspenseful, addictive read that masterfully contrasts the glamorous backdrop of the Hamptons with the dark secrets hidden beneath privileged appearances. Building from a slow-burn setup into a wild rollercoaster finish, this book balances rich character depth with constant, heart-pounding tension.
The story unfolds through multiple perspectives, shifting between Kylie, Celeste, Blake, and Penelope, complemented by a dual timeline that sheds light on past events and enriches the present dynamic. Rather than leaning on flat caricatures, the author crafts multi-dimensional characters who feel like real human beings driven by complex emotions. While reading The Resident Murder first offers additional backstory, this book works brilliantly as a standalone; I was completely hooked from start to finish and am already eager to go back and read the first installment.
What I loved most was the sheer paranoia infused into every chapter. Rich people, social status, scandal, and manipulation create an atmosphere where everyone is a suspect, and nothing is as it seems. The author masterfully tricks you into thinking you have everything figured out, only to toss in a new revelation that leaves you second-guessing your theories all the way up to the final reveal. I had a few minor critiques regarding the subplot execution, as the breakup felt a bit too easy and simple for characters with such deep emotional history, but because this was secondary to the main plot, it didn’t take away from my overall enjoyment.
Ultimately, The Socialite Murder is an absolute page-turner that I flew through. It delivers a thrilling, true-crime-style whodunit packed with addictive scandal, sharp perspective shifts, and constant twists. If you love a complex mystery where you never know who or what to believe, I highly recommend adding this one to your shelf.
