I hail from India, a land shaped by one of the oldest cultures in the world. I believe one of the gentlest oversights visitors make, including many of us urban Indians, is exploring our heritage sites without uncovering the history beneath them. Just as one might deeply research the storied cities of Italy before visiting, I always hope people will take the time to learn the context behind India’s landmarks. Our country is home to some of the most magnificent structures, sacred locations, and living traditions on earth. I truly wish that we, as Indians, would immerse ourselves in these stories first, so we can gracefully share their true magic with the rest of the world.
