Emily Wilde #2

Author : Heather Fawcett

Genre : Historical Fiction, Magical Realism & Romance

My rating : ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Brief :

Emily Wilde, the brilliant scholar of faerie folklore, has just completed the world’s first comprehensive encyclopedia of faeries. Now, she and Bambleby are embarking on another adventure, this time to the enchanting Austrian Alps. Emily is convinced they’ll discover the gateway to Bambleby’s realm and the key to liberating him from his family’s dark schemes. But with new relationships to navigate and dangerous Folk lurking in every shadow, Emily must unravel the secrets of faerie doors and her own heart.

My opinion :

The story unfolds through the journal of Emily, a dryadologist, who comes across as highly knowledgeable, intuitive, and chivalrous. However, Emily is far from perfect, and her journal reflects that. She’s observant and determined, and her written accounts reveal her imperfections, making us feel like we’re discovering the story alongside her and Wendell in real time. The adventures are so meticulously crafted that every word feels purposeful.

Since the first book, everything has only improved character development, plot complexity, the expanding knowledge of the fae world, and the intricacies of the magic system. It’s hard to believe these aren’t the real accounts of an actual scholar. The book has a cozy fantasy and cottagecore feel, but what I love most is the underlying sense of mystery.

My favorite part is Wendell’s entry, which adds even more depth to the story. This is the perfect way to kick off fall and the final quarter of the year, a rare sequel that outshines the original!

Heather Fawcett  has become my favourite author this year ✨🍁 I really can’t wait for the third book 🍂
