Author :  Erin Morgenstern

Genre : Historical Fiction, Magical Realism & Love Story

My rating : ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Brief :

The circus appears without a whisper of warning, no fanfare heralding its arrival. One moment it is not there, and the next, it simply exists. Within its black and white striped tents lies a world unlike any other, a realm of breathtaking wonders known as Le Cirque des Rêves, a place that opens only under the cover of night. Yet behind the scenes, a dangerous contest unfolds, a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been rigorously trained since childhood for this very purpose by their unpredictable mentors. Unaware of the full stakes, they are locked in a game where only one can triumph, and the circus serves as their arena, a battleground shaped by their imagination and will. However, despite the rules of the game, Celia and Marco fall deeply in love, a magical connection that makes the lights shimmer and the air thrum with warmth whenever they touch. Still, the game cannot be stopped, and the fate of everyone from the circus performers to its enchanted guests hangs delicately in the balance, as fragile as the daring acrobats who soar above.

My opinion :

This book is like a dream woven from the finest threads of imagination, one that you never wish to wake from. It is a journey that spirals back to where it began, a story that draws you in so deeply, you find yourself returning to its pages, eager to re-live the magic of its moments. Author Erin has done an exceptional job, crafting a narrative that feels like a hidden world whispered of in myths and tales, a portal to a realm where time and reality blur into a haze of enchanting possibilities.

Initially, the intricate details may seem like an overabundance, but soon you realize each one is a carefully placed gem, leading you to a revelation that leaves you in awe of the story’s craftsmanship. This book isn’t about action; it is about atmosphere, a dance of shadows and light under a starlit sky. It’s a circus of the mind, where you are not just a reader, but a silent observer, caught in the flow of its ethereal cadence.

Some may dismiss fiction as a child’s fancy, a frivolous indulgence, but I have always believed in the power of stories to transport us beyond the mundane. This book is a world unto itself, a haven for those of us who seek refuge from reality, a place where our deepest dreams and desires come alive, if only for a little while.
