My opinion :
The story follows an investigation into a town burdened by quiet hostility, hidden agendas, and deep-seated local secrets. As the narrative unfolds, Sheriff Hank Worth digs beyond the surface to untangle a complex web of motives, maneuvering through escalating interpersonal tension, reluctant witnesses, and escalating danger. As hidden truths begin to emerge, the stakes grow higher, forcing Hank to determine who can truly be trusted before the truth is buried for good.
What I loved most about this book was the author’s ability to build sustained, atmospheric tension. Claire Booth is an amazing storyteller who excels at crafting quiet, realistic suspense through layered storytelling and sharp interpersonal dynamics. The sense of place is vibrant, and the gradual drip of revelations keeps you hooked as you try to piece together the motives of the surrounding community.
This was my very first book by Claire Booth, and even though Hidden Currents is the 8th book in the Sheriff Hank Worth Mystery Series, it reads wonderfully while leaving me so itching to pick up all the earlier books. Sheriff Hank Worth is officially a new favorite investigator to follow on my list!
Overall, Hidden Currents is a smart, atmospheric, and engaging mystery that delivers a strong sense of place, well-crafted intrigue, and a thrilling addition to an ever-evolving police procedural series.
